Hanoi [Vietnam], March 7: The critically acclaimed art film 'Sentimental Value', which received 9 Oscar nominations, has just released its first poster and trailer in Vietnam under the Vietnamese title 'The House of Memories'.
Sentimental Value has garnered attention not only for its prestigious Oscar nominations but also for the inclusion of Hollywood actress Elle Fanning, who is receiving much praise from international media.
The official poster for Sentimental Value features a somber color palette and a tranquil composition, evoking a nostalgic atmosphere that permeates the entire story. The image also introduces the main cast, including Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgard, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas.
The trailer for *The House of Memories* reveals a story revolving around Gustav, a renowned director with a complicated family relationship. After years away, he unexpectedly returns with a new film project, while also trying to reconcile with his two daughters. However, the filmmaking process inadvertently rekindles painful memories from the past. The tense dialogues between the characters show that the family relationships in the film are more complex and emotionally multifaceted than they appear on the surface. Gustav, played by Stellan Skarsgard, is portrayed as a talented artist with many flaws in his personal life. His new film project is not just a work of art, but also a way to confront past mistakes and losses.
Elle Fanning is drawing attention with her new role.
One of the film's highlights is the appearance of Elle Fanning as Rachel, a young film star invited to participate in Gustav's project. Rachel's character not only contributes to the film's storyline but also becomes a factor that further strains the relationships within Gustav's family. Her presence alters how the characters perceive art, fame, and their own past.
International media outlets have praised Elle Fanning's performance. Variety magazine commented that the actress brought "a subtle yet powerful presence," making the character Rachel a balancing point amidst the film's conflicts. Meanwhile, The Guardian praised Elle Fanning's portrayal of the role with a calm demeanor and good emotional control, creating the image of a young star who is both confident and fragile. Some critics believe that the role of Rachel marks a new stage of maturity for Elle Fanning as she continues to challenge herself in high-artistic film projects and collaborate with European directors.
Before its release in Vietnam, Sentimental Value garnered significant attention at several major film festivals. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and quickly became one of the most anticipated works of the season. Director Joachim Trier's work subsequently won the Grand Prix, the second most prestigious award at Cannes, recognizing its subtle storytelling and deeply psychological script. Furthermore, the performances of Stellan Skarsgard and Renate Reinsve received much praise. The two actors delivered emotionally rich performances, making the family story in the film both authentic and haunting.
Recently, June Films has shown a clear interest in international art films, consistently bringing high-quality works to the Vietnamese market. Previously, the company participated in the distribution of Flow , an independent animated film that garnered attention at numerous film festivals and won an Oscar. The release of The House of Memories further demonstrates their efforts to bring high-artistic value films closer to domestic audiences. The film premiered in Vietnamese theaters on March 20th.
