Trấn Thanh's Tết Film Surpasses 200 Billion VND, Announces Legal Action Over Illegal Recording

Feb 22, 2026

Seoul [South Korea], February 22: In an official press release, the distributor announced that just four days after its official premiere, there had been cases of illegal recordings of the film Thỏ ơi, directed by Trấn Thanh, which were then uploaded to social media platforms and content-sharing websites.
According to the distributor, the act of illegally recording and uploading part or all of the film - whether directly or indirectly - is a violation of the law and seriously infringes upon copyright and related rights. This behavior directly affects the legitimate interests of the producer, distributor, and the entire creative team.
Galaxy Studio also emphasized that under current legal regulations, particularly the Intellectual Property Law and the Cinema Law, a cinematic work is protected by copyright from the moment it is created and expressed in a tangible form. Any act of copying, distributing, or communicating the work to the public without permission from the rights holder is illegal and may be subject to penalties under the law, including criminal charges depending on the severity and damages caused.
The distributor confirmed that several accounts had posted portions or even the full content of Thỏ ơi. The film's team has officially documented the violations, collected evidence, recorded links, account information, and other relevant data as a basis for legal action. "We are working with competent authorities to verify the source of the leaks and trace the individuals and organizations involved," the statement said.
The distributor affirmed its firm stance in protecting the lawful rights and interests of the film, while urging audiences not to illegally record, share, or facilitate the unauthorized distribution of any theatrical film - not just limited to Thỏ ơi.
"Respecting copyright is not only about complying with the law but also a practical way to support the film industry and the professionals who work hard behind the scenes," the statement stressed.
Earlier, Trấn Thanh also posted a message asking audiences not to reveal the ending or spread content from Thỏ ơi on social media. The director noted that filmmaking is a challenging profession that represents the collective effort of many individuals. Therefore, secretly recording or sharing key plot details significantly harms the entire team. "Please appreciate the hard work of so many people involved in a film," he expressed.
New Box Office Milestone
According to data from Box Office Vietnam, on February 21 alone, Thỏ ơi earned more than 37.7 billion VND (as of 8 p.m.), equivalent to over 384,000 tickets sold. This pushed the film's total revenue past the 200 billion VND mark.
In recent days, Trấn Thanh's Tết film has consistently led the box office, significantly outperforming competitors such as Nha ba toi một phong, Bau vật trời cho, and Mùi phở.
